Writing and drawing about the natural world
Nature still informs us. It lifts us and supports us. For children, the natural world comes in many forms, from a tiny ant to running through a forest or watching a baby bird take flight. Unlike screens, nature does not steal time. It amplifies it and fosters creativity. Unfortunately, as adults, we get busy and become largely disconnected from nature. This separateness is often viewed as a sign of progress and a mark of modern civilisation. Yet we forget a healthy natural environment is what all life depends upon. We need to protect it for our children and all the species we share the planet with. Our children can become agents of change, creating a sustainable world we can share and protect for future generations.
The Ant, the Plant, and the Caterpillar
A STORY FOR ALL THE LITTLE CONSERVATIONISTS IN THE WORLD
Written and Illustrated by Karen Carter
This children’s book tells the story of a special relationship between Lucida the Caterpillar, Nathan the Ant, and the ‘Sweet Bursaria’ plant. It shows how a little caterpillar, with the help of an ant, grows to become the delicate, endangered Eltham Copper Butterfly.
